Service

Today, we served at the Dream Center again. The Dream Center is part of a larger organization which has various programs and services, and today we helped out Army of the Kind.

AOTK's vision is "A world where orphans can become more than just the next statistic."

Their mission is "to feed hungry children around the world physically, mentally, educationally and spiritually as we world towards the goal of stopping the cycle of poverty."

We helped organize their storage room where they keep most of their medical supplies, clothes, etc. that they take on mission trips. One of their mission trips this summer is going to Africa, so it was cool knowing that even a small thing such as organizing a storage room helps them get ready for a trip that will make a big impact.

Reflection

We discussed what service means to each of us an individuals, and how our definitions of service have changed during this week. I really enjoyed hearing everyone's thoughts about service and how this trip has helped them think about service in different ways.

We ended reflection with why we do service and why everyone should do service as well. Some insights I liked from the group include: service makes you realize that we all need to be kind to one another and that service doesn't have to be on a big scale such as a mission trip, and it can start in our own neighborhoods and communities.

The Beanies!

During free time today, we walked over to Cloud Gate, aka The Bean sculpture. The sun was a nice change to the snow yesterday and it almost felt warm. Then, for dinner some of us went to a local restaurant and ate Chicago dogs!

I can't believe tomorrow is our last day of service and this week is almost over. Stay tuned to read about our last service day and the verdict on Chicago deep dish pizza.
