Service

Today we volunteered at La Casa Norte, which has several programs and services for homeless youth and families.

Their vision: "La Casa Norte dreams of a world where all people have dignity, communities thrive and everyone belongs."

Their mission: "to serve youth and families confronting homelessness. We provide access to stable housing and deliver comprehensive services that act as a catalyst to transform lives and communities."

We did various tasks throughout our time there such as making decorations, organizing their clothes closet, doing a neighborhood cleanup, and sorting goodie bags for the youth.

Reflection

During our reflection after service, I asked the team to describe the day in one word and that one word varied from person to person, from "struggling" to "family". I thought it was interesting how everyone had a similar reaction to today's service, yet each person felt this day in a different way. I'm excited for our other reflection times and I can't wait to see how my participants change throughout this week.

After a delicious meal of kabsa and lemon bars, made by Darren (our trip advisor), Batool, and Mohammed, the group explored downtown. It was fun seeing the skyline, lights, and people milling about.

It was a fun and full day and I can't wait for more!
