I’m Hejingzi Jia, and I comes from China. My major in Missouri State University is Dietetics. I’m a sophomore this year. Today, we volunteered in Chicago Dream Center again. We started at 10:00 this morning, and end at 2:20 pm. It was a great experience for me to get involved in American community. I learned something new and make new friends. We also went to the Cloud Gate afternoon. We did the reflection at the park.
Another day in Dream Center
Today is another day in Chicago Dream Center. What we did today is reorganizing their basement and storeroom. When I went to the storeroom, I was confused. I don’t know how to organize such a big and disorder room. There are so many stuffs here, like donated clothing, toys, and other office supplies.
However, my team found out the way to do that. There are so many stuffs that can be used. For example, there are new scarves that can be sent to Africa, and there are gifts. We found that we need to let those people in the organization know that they have these things so that they can use these things to help more people. All the messes in the storeroom were organized after two hours. It’s very fulfilling! In addition, it was happy to do those things with my team!
Reflection and Exploration
We went to the “Bean” (cloud gate) afternoon. It’s the landmark of Chicago. We took pictures together. I like the atmosphere, and I had a great time with my team! We did reflection in the park. We discussed what the means of “serve”, and we talks about why everyone need to serve. I got some new idea from my team. In my opinion, serving is helping people and learn something from it, but my team told me that serving is also helping everything around us, including our community and environment!
